Sally's Ribbon Cutting

The Salvation Army Provides New Way to Help Those in Need

Sallys_sign_10.4.10_004sm(Fort Myers, FL) The Salvation Army of Lee, Hendry and Glades Counties will reveal a groundbreaking renovation during a ribbon cutting ceremony Wednesday October 6th at 10 a.m. With the successful completion of changes to its Meals with Compassion program, Sally’s Café & Marketplace will become the first facility of its kind in within The Salvation Army’s Southern Territory. The event will be held on site at 2476 Edison Avenue in Fort Myers.

In this troubling economy more and more people are being forced to decide whether to stay in their homes or feed themselves and their families. As a result, hundreds of Southwest Florida residents are finding they need help for the first time. Sally’s Café and Marketplace is designed to make it easier for those and other individuals to find that help.

The renovation is designed to increase client dignity and integrity with a renovated dining area, which is intended to be warm and inviting to guests and is mirrored after a café style setting. The project will also increase program efficiency by reducing waste. The installation of refrigeration and freezer units will allow The Salvation Army to accept perishable donations for the first time ever.

Those attending include: Mayor Randy Henderson, City of Fort Myers; Levon Sims, Fort Myers City Councilman Ward 3 and Tammy Hall, Lee County Commissioner District 4; Joseph Catti, President & CEO FineMark National Bank & Trust; Julia East D.M., President & CEO Southwest Florida Community Foundation; Cliff Smith, President United Way of Lee, Hendry and Glades Counties; Howard Wheeler, President Chris-Tel Construction; as well as representatives from BJ’s Charitable Foundation and Busey Bank.

Before and after photos and interviews will be available, as well as testimony from a former Meals with Compassion client.
