Record Breaking Number of families Register with The Salvation Army for Holiday Assistance

(FORT MYERS, FLORIDA) October 29, 2009 — The Salvation Army continues to see all time high numbers set an all-time record today with the number of families registering for the 2009 Christmas Cheer program. Registration began on Wednesday, October 28, with staff and volunteers registered 673 families for the first day, followed up by 439 families today. Today’s totals bring the two day count to 1,112 families.

“Not only are we seeing high numbers, but we are also seeing a record number of families who have never had to ask for help before,” said Major Art Penhale of The Salvation Army.

“There are many families who can’t make ends meet and truly don’t know what to do for their children this Christmas,” added Penhale. The Army is expecting to see registration numbers continue to rise through the next two week’s sign up process.
