Donations Down at Family Stores

New Store Opens Saturday, Donations Desperately Needed

A double-edged sword for The Salvation Army. Due to the continuing economic downturn more and more shoppers are looking for bargains, however while sales at family stores are up, donations are down.

The Salvation Army of Lee, Hendry and Glades counties currently operates two stores. One is located in south Lee County and the other in Cape Coral. The newest and third store is scheduled to open Saturday February 26th at 9:00 a.m. near Boy Scout and U.S. 41.

The Salvation Army’s Crossroads program is entirely funded through local Family Thrift Store Sales. Its success is extremely dependant on the sale of donations which compared to year ago figures are down by as much as 30 percent. Items needed include gently used high end clothing, shoes and household items. The Salvation Army will also pick up your car, boat, truck, motorcycle or RV at no charge and provide you with an IRS approved receipt for your donation.
