1. Is there a Salvation Army center in my community?
Yes, the center is the church, as well as a community center. It is located at 10291 McGregor Blvd in Fort Myers (near the Mid-point Bridge).
2. What types of services are provided at these centers?
In addition to Sunday morning worship services, weekly Bible studies, outreach to people in hospitals and other traditional church activities, The Salvation Army Corps offers special services for the needy and Seniors. We have a program for young people called Terrific Tuesday, and each Wednesday, we serve a dinner meal followed by our Bible study series. In addition, a variety of outside groups meet regularly at our center.
3. Does The Salvation Army in Lee County have a shelter?
Yes. A 215-bed shelter, The Red Shield Lodge, helps many people experiencing homelessness to get back on track and to begin living a productive life again. We also offer an evening meal to anyone who is hungry every day of the year.
4. Does everybody who works for the Army wear a uniform?
No, only Salvation Army officers and members of The Salvation Army Corps (called soldiers), wear uniforms. Many employees in our social services programs are not members of the church and serve residents in our outreach programs.
